Le incisioni di Lepautre sono considerate tra le più belle mai prodotte, rappresentando l’apice dell’arte decorativa del XVII secolo.
Il Getty Museum lo riconosce come uno dei più importanti incisori di ornamenti dell’epoca.
La sua opera riflette la ricchezza dello stile Luigi XIV e anticipa i movimenti decorativi successivi, come l’Art Nouveau.
Durante la sua carriera, Lepautre ha creato oltre 1500 progetti per architettura, giardini e mobili, pubblicando alcune delle sue opere solo dopo la sua morte nel 1751.
