Si ritiene che questa incisione provenga dalla Collection of views of Paris, the surrounding castles and Rome, published in Paris in 1660.

Gabriele Carelli, nato a Napoli nel 1820 in una famiglia di artisti, si formò sotto la guida del padre Raffaele e si distinse per la sua interpretazione realista della pittura d’interno.
Nel 1847, il Duca di Devonshire lo portò in Inghilterra, dove continuò la sua carriera artistica, diventando membro della “Royal Society of Watercolours” nel 1874.
Carelli ricevette riconoscimenti internazionali, tra cui una medaglia d’oro a Boston nel 1881.
